Agra Str resident calls for shedding light on who torched car

A local resident who is still recovering from shock after finding his car in flames is now appealing to the community to come forward with any information they may have as to who were the culprit/s involved in destroying his vehicle.

Raven Govender (56) of Agra Street East Laudium who is still nursing his broken heart says that an unknown person or persons had, during the holiday period deliberately destroyed his car which was parked inside his yard, by throwing a petrol bomb at it, causing the car to burst into flames. Raven was livid after discovering that his car was torched by unknown people inside his yard last year in December.

Raven Govender of Agra Street East is still nursing his broken heart after his car was torched by unknown people.

Raven told the Laudium Sun that his car called Ssang Yong Kyron was parked inside his yard, when in the early part of the morning at about four o clock some unknown person or persons came with a petrol bomb and threw it on his car, resulting in his car being torched.

Raven’s Ssang Yong Kyron was parked inside his yard when it was torched by an unknown person/s.

Raven said that he suspected a petrol bomb, because he found a broken bottle near his car. A clearly traumatized Raven added, “My car was burned very badly. The discovery of my car burning was made by my girlfriend, when she went to the bathroom early in the morning at around 4am and saw through the window, smoke outside in the yard. When she looked closer from the window, she realized that my car was on fire and immediately woke me up. I then rushed outside to check what was happening. When I saw my car on fire, I screamed for my neighbours to help extinguish the flames. The damages to my burned car are estimated at R60000. The engine, gear box and other stuff in my car were burnt very badly and my car won’t be easily fixed.” Raven continued, “I was helped by the neighbors and some people who were passing by, to help extinguish the fire. I did not call the fire fighters because with the help of my neighbours, we managed to extinguish the flames. I don’t know the person or persons who burnt my car and why they did it as I do not have any enemies and I don’t owe anyone money. Whoever was responsible for destroying my car is very cruel and I don’t know why he would do something like this” Raven said sadly.

Raven added that he was living with his girlfriend and her son and that he had been living at the Agra Street house since 1990. “It is the first time something like this has ever happened at my place. I have a dog in the yard, but on the day of my car being destroyed the dog was locked up at the back of the house. Perhaps if the dog was at the front of the house, the dog would have barked a lot, and scared of the perpetrator and we would have woken up before any damage to my car could be done. I work as a legal and financial consultant and I have never had a fight with anyone. I mind my own business and stay away from trouble, that is why I simply cannot understand why this person or persons burned my car. What was done to my car, is very painful and traumatic for me, since I don’t have enemies. I did not open a case with the police regarding this matter because I do not know who burnt my car. Even my neighbors told me that they did not see anyone in the area at that time of the morning.”
