While there has been many incidents of dog poisoning reported over time, due to criminals killing guard dogs, so that they could get easy access into premises without any hindrance, reports of cat
killings have not featured much in the news.
However, a local family, extremely fond of cats, is highly traumatised after not one but eight of their cats were found dead after being poisoned. The family from 15th Avenue, Laudium has now complained to the Laudium Sun about their cats being poisoned, with the hope that the perpetrators involved will be exposed and prosecuted on charges of cruelty to animals amongst others.

Local cat fundi Faizal Goolam from 15th Avenue, told the Laudium Sun, “My wife and I are passionate about cats and it has been very traumatic for our family after we lost 8 cats last week, We buried all our cats in a dignified manner, as that was the least that we could do for them. What is more disheartening is that the cats were all poisoned! They faced such a cruel death. The last cat died last Tuesday, on February 25, and it was such a sad day for us.

Humanity is collapsing day by day. How can someone poison such innocent animals?
Cats don’t harm anyone. I’m not sure who poisoned our cats, but whoever did this inhuman act must be caught and held accountable. It is a serious crime, and the community must come forward to address this issue. It is very difficult for us to blame anyone for this pathetic crime, but we have our suspicions. I’m sure it must be someone who is opposed to cats. If I find out who did it, I will deal with them. Cats play a big role in one’s life, besides helping to get rid of rats. They bring peace and tranquillity into the home and they are such innocent animals; they don’t bother anyone. I really don’t know what kind of people live in our community who would want to kill a cat. It is really heartless. I plead to all the residents in the area of 15th Avenue to be vigilant. Whoever owns a cat, they must stay alert, because we have a cat killer roaming around our society and killing innocent cats for no reason.”
Another resident from 15th Avenue, Sadiq Bhamjee, told the Laudium Sun, “This is the most inhuman act that has ever happened in Laudium. I’ve lived here in Laudium and in the very same house my whole life, and I haven’t experienced anything as disgusting as this. But now things are changing, as we have more foreigners than locals living within the community. I think one of these foreigners may be killing our cats, as they believe in black magic and think that by killing cats, they can gain more power to perform rituals. This is truly sad, as we are losing our original local community day by day. This place is slowly becoming like Marabastad, which used to be an Indian area, but now others have taken over.”

Another concerned resident from 15th Ave, Samsuddin Patel, told the Laudium Sun, “I had two cats in my shop, and one cat has been missing for a few weeks. I think the cat has been killed, as I haven’t seen it for 15th Ave resident, Sadiq Bhamjee, said that he believes one of the foreigners may be killing the cats, as part of black magic. such a long time. It’s really bad—where has humanity gone? I can’t believe someone would kill a cat, as they are so innocent. It’s totally wrong. The cats help in my shop by taking care of the rats, and they don’t disturb anyone. I cannot understand why someone would be going around killing cats.”
