Council dusts off complaints of Lime Str resident’s dustbin problems

  • by

A Laudium resident is furious as each week, he and his family have to endure a strong stench in front of their house due to rushing waste collectors from the Council.

Imraan Waja (32) of Lime Street told the Laudium Sun, “Every Wednesday morning, the Council waste collectors after emptying the bins of the neighbourhood, dump all the bins together in front of our yard, blocking our driveway and causing a stench as many of the bins are left open and have a bad
smell. The dumping of the dustbins outside our gate serves as a painful reminder of the waste collector’s disregard for our well being.”

Some of the many dustbins that the Council’s waste collectors dumped outside Imraan’s house on Lime Str, Laudium.

Imraan’s dilemma is not just about the inconvenience, it is also about the impact on his family. His mother, who works tirelessly to provide for their household, returns home exhausted only to face the additional burden of clearing up the waste collector’s mess. Imraan added, “I’m sick and tired of this. It is not only about the dustbins, it is about the lack of respect and consideration for my household. We pay our taxes, therefore it is the Council’s responsibility to provide basic services efficiently.”

The issue has been ongoing for months, with Imraan and his family repeatedly requesting assistance from the Council to resolve the issue. “This is not our work to move the bins one side, as some people
collect their bins later, so my mum and I are forced to take them to their rightful owners or move the bins aside, since the waste collectors are failing to do their job. My house is now being turned into a dumpsite. My mother’s health is being put at a high risk with this tension. The waste collectors must make sure that they return the dustbins where they’ve found them, what they are doing is totally wrong,” Imraan concluded. The Laudium Sun called Paul Bennet from Cllr Patel’s office to see how they could assist Imraan. But, Paul gave a rather cold response saying, “He (Imraan) should contact the Council’s Waste Department for assistance.”

Imraan Waja (32) of Lime Str is furious that the Council is not attending to his complaint about dustbins being dumped in front of their house, causing a stench and blocking their driveway.
