Diwali/Deepavali is one of the biggest Hindu festivals celebrated across the globe. The radiant ‘Festival of Lights’ celebrates the triumph of good over evil, hope over despair, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, symbolically represented by the lamps (diyas) that illuminate the homes of devotees during this time. The festival is also an occasion during which homes are cleaned, colourful ‘rangolis’ or patterns are painted in preparation for family get-togethers, sweet delicacies are prepared and enjoyed, gifts are exchanged, new clothing is adorned and the skies are lit by fireworks. This year, Diwali/Deepavali will be celebrated on Monday (October 20), with the predominantly Gujarati community celebrating New Year the following day (Tuesday – October 21). The Laudium Sun joins Twisha, Manan, Shrinika, Kavya, Moksha and Takshvi from the Shree Pretoria Hindu Seva Samaj (pictured alongside), in wishing all our Hindu readers an absolutely brilliant Diwali/Deepavali. May this auspicious occasion illuminate your homes with joy, peace and prosperity. A glorious New Year to those celebrating; one that promises to cover the power-triad: health, wealth and happiness.
