The youth of Laezonia had a Youth Day to remember, filled with inspirational talks and messages and also wonderful performances by the school children.
Erasmia SAPS Social Crime Office under Station Commander Lt Col PC Madonsela conducted a commemoration day, in honour of Youth Day at Laezonia informal settlement on June 16.
This initiative was done in partnership with the following stakeholders:

5.Erasmia Youth Crime Prevention Desk
6.Khuluma Family Counseling
7.GBV Brigades
Social Crime Coordinator at the Erasmia SAPS, Sgt. Calvin Shaai, told the Laudium Sun, “As it was Youth Day, we decided to celebrate the event in style by combining the celebration with awareness at the same. The youth community of Laezonia were invited to celebrate with us on the day. Erasmia SAPS Station Commander delivered a message to the youth that they must refrain from committing crime because that might affect their career. She also encouraged the youth to participate or volunteer in assisting the police to fight crime. She highlighted the issue of participating in YCPD, CPF, AND COMMUNITY PATROLLER. This might give them a better opportunity when applying for a job. Other stakeholders were also given platforms to give encouragement to the youth to work together and help each other for their safety and their future. We also had school children who participated in some performances which included Sarafina dancing, poems and dramas.
It was a very interesting event whereby people enjoyed themselves and received valuable information. We encouraged the youth to stay away from criminal activities and engaging in sexual activities to avoid teenage pregnancies. Erasmia SAPS Station Commander, Lt Col PC Madonsela, encouraged the youth to apply for posts as SAPS trainees and to help the police to fight crime. CREATION OF OUR YOUTH SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY.”
