Founded by dynamic duo Muhammad and Ameerah Gangat in 2022, Erasmia Sports and Recreation is a registered non-profit company with a vision to create positive change within the community.
The organization aims to uplift young people by providing opportunities for growth and development beyond their current circumstances. Erasmia Sports and Recreation is distinguished by its holistic approach, combining sports, education, and wellness to foster self-discipline and empowerment.
This past Saturday (July 27), Erasmia Sports and Recreation, a branch of the Erasmia Sports Association together with The Pretoria branch of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA), doctors from different departments namely, dentistry, optometry, physiotherapy, and
dietetics, Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and Laudium Cancer Care held its first health and wellness screening for over 80 young people from the underprivileged area of Itireleng, to address the youth’s overall well-being. This event served as a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing commitment to empowering local youth through sports and enrichment programs.
During the course of the event, doctors took different turns in explaining the importance of having such screenings done whilst those who attended enjoying treats from the Knead Skill Centre. The Al Fidaa Foundation and Light of the Needy sponsored lunch, making the day both educational and enjoyable. The day continued with Islamic Reformation Classes that addressed the challenges youth face in their homes, schools, and communities. Participants engaged in scouting activities
as part of the 48th Erasmia Lions and attended self-defence classes led by Sensei Wian, catering for both boys and girls. The day concluded with prayers and a communal lunch, reinforcing a sense of
community and support. The organization plans to expand the program to include various Sunnah sports, further enriching and empowering young minds, bodies, and souls by reinforcing the principles and ethos of their faith.
Although this was the first health screening for the children, the event turned out to be a success and thus the organization plans to conduct these assessments biannually. Pleased with how the event turned out to be, owner of the Erasmia Sports and Recreation Centre, Ameerah Nazier Ganget said, “The event was enjoyed by all and was of great benefit to all the kids that were screened by our local health care workers that volunteered their time and skills on Saturday. Arrangements have also been made for the children that need treatment to get the assistance needed. We would like to thank IMA Pretoria once again for their assistance without whom this event would not have been possible.”
