The Million Smiles Campaign handover event was a heartfelt celebration of community support, led by Cllr Naeem Patel in collaboration with Foodline Hyper this past Wednesday (Nov 6). Cllr Patel told the Laudium Sun.
“This campaign was dedicated to collecting sanitary pads to give out to learners in Ward 61, who struggle to afford to buy these essential items, which often leads to them missing school. Through this initiative, 13,488 packs of sanitary pads were collected so that they could comfortably focus on their education.
Foodline Hyper, represented by Yasser Khamissa, generously contributed 25% of the total donations. Local schools also played a significant role, with Central Islamic School (CIS) raising the most funds at R70,000. Contributions were also made by other schools and private donors within the community.”
The handover event took place at the premises of Foodline Hyper on Bengal Str, where certificates of appreciation were presented to the principals of participating schools. The event concluded with a celebratory gathering, featuring tea and cake, symbolizing the community’s unity and dedication to uplifting its youth.
