Despite some of those who do not even live in the Laudium area (Ward 61), including apartheid spies or apartheid activists, continuing to praise Shaheen Wahab, as the Laudium CPF Chairperson and Cllr Patel as the Councillor of Ward 61, many residents feel otherwise. This, as residents in the area (Ward 61) remain despondent with both the CPF and the Councillor, saying that the crime and grime situation in the area is getting worse.
This follows more complaints received by the Laudium Sun, concerning the ongoing crime and grime in the area, with residents comparing the Laudium of today to what it was years back. Yet more crime was reported to the Laudium Sun this week, for crime stats purposes, this time, regarding another break-in occurring at a home on Jacinth Str, in Laudium, recently.

gaining entry to the property, then ransacking the outer building.
A thief or thieves entered the home while the owners were asleep, during the early hours of last Wednesday morning, at around 4:30am, by breaking open the front gate lock and entering the outer building, stealing clothes and other household items from the home of Fatima Hamid. Fatima told the Laudium Sun, “It was really frustrating for us as we recently moved into this area and never imagined that our first days here would be so stressful. When my family and I went to sleep on Tuesday night, all was in order at home. However when we woke up in the morning, we found the outer building of our house in a mess. The door of the outer building was faulty, as it was slightly bent and could not close properly, but we never imagined that thieves or a thief would take advantage of that and break-in. We then checked CCTV footage and could see one thief entering the yard at around 4:30am. I believe that there was another thief waiting nearby and keeping a watch, but cannot say for sure. These thieves stole clothes and household items from the outer building and I cannot yet understand how they came in, as we have a big gate in the front of our property and it’s not easy to enter the property. I believe this theft was the work of these nyaope guys who broke into our house and stole from us. The crime in Laudium is really bad. Yet, I never expected it would happen to us. It is heartbreaking that we cannot find peace in this community, as every week we read of some of the break-ins reported in the Laudium Sun. I am sure there are many more incidents of crime, which people are not even reporting to the police, or telling anyone about. This is totally unacceptable. We need proper law enforcement in our area, so that we can live in a safe environment.”

Murthy Kollappen of Jacinth Street told the Laudium Sun, “Crime is very high overall in Laudium, but on our street, it was relatively quiet. Now with this break-in by Fatima’s house, it is worrying. We need to be united as a community, as Laudium is fast going down with all the crime and grime in the area. We need to reclaim Laudium and get it back the way it was years ago. We cannot just sit back and do nothing. There must be better protection for us and we need proper security and support from the police and the patrollers and also proper service delivery from the Council. We need to safeguard our homes and our children, whether it’s break-ins or drug-related problems or illegal dumping.”

Roshen Pillay, another resident of Jacinth Street, told the Laudium Sun, “I heard about the break-in and I believe it may have been thieves who know our area who were involved. All incidents of crime are harmful to our community. We need to be extra careful about who enters our street and who we allow into our community.”
