Yet again, residents in the Laudium area are asking, just where the police, private security and other security patrollers are, when criminals come into the area so easily and leave so easily without being spotted.
This follows yet another car theft in the area, where thieves managed to so easily steal a car and drive away with it, without being noticed by any of these security patrollers. In this latest incident of car theft, a car was stolen outside a mini shopping complex on Indigo Street, at around 14:30 this past Saturday (Sept, 21), despite the streets being busy at the time. It is believed that the car, a Toyota Yaris, which was parked near Jacaranda Primary School, belonged to a staff member who worked at one of the businesses in the mini complex. When the Laudium Sun went to the complex this past Monday, we met up with 45-year-old security officer from Itireleng informal settlement who guards the mini complex, Peter Motale who confirmed to the Laudium Sun that the Yaris was stolen and that the car belonged to a female employee working at one of the shops at the complex. Peter added, “I was not on duty at the time. I received the information the following day from one of my colleagues who told me who the owner of the car was. This is first time something like this has happened in this area where we have been patrolling since I am working here. I hope that the police find these thieves who stole the car and put them behind bars. These criminals are out in full force targeting innocent people throughout Laudium especially in shopping areas. I hope the police will increase patrols at all shopping areas, as
there is not much police visibility in our area. We are trying our best as security officers to keep Laudium safe for it’s residents but the police have to support us and join our fight against crime. I heard the car was parked at the school’s parking area, as it is used on weekends because there is no school,” Peter concluded. Another security officer, James Makhafola, who also was on duty at the business complex when the Laudium Sun went there, said, “I was also not on duty on Saturday when the car was stolen. These thieves are giving us a headache and it seems that crime all over in the area has increased. I just hope that the police will catch the criminals responsible for the theft of the car.”
