Laudium Cancer Care lit up the lives of its beloved cancer warriors this week with a vibrant and heartwarming event held at Velmore Estate last Wednesday (April 23).
Dedicated to uplifting and honouring those fighting cancer, the day was filled with laughter, creativity, and community spirit. From the moment patients walked in, they were treated like royalty, welcomed with warmth, surrounded by cheer, and indulged in a day packed with fun activities and a wholesome meal. Thanks to Zubi’s Braai, the aroma of sizzling goodness added to the homely atmosphere and kept stomachs satisfied.
A definite highlight of the day was the creative bake-off where students from the Knead Skills Academy assisted to coordinate. Patients were grouped into teams and handed a delightful array of colourful icing ingredients and decorations to design their own cakes. The air buzzed with creativity as patients showcased their flair for cake art. Prizes were awarded to the winning team, but the biggest reward was the laughter and excitement shared by all.

Bakers Den generously provided all the decorative goodies, while Dhamoos Fruit n Veg ensured that guests had a healthy spread of fresh fruits to enjoy throughout the day. Events like these, held bi-monthly by Laudium Cancer Care, are more than just entertainment, they are a testament to the organization’s commitment to raising awareness, promoting joy, and providing emotional nourishment to those on the cancer journey. “Keeping spirits high is part of the healing,” said one of the volunteers and “this is our way of saying you’re not alone,” said another.
“To join hands with Laudium Cancer Care or to sponsor future events, please reach out and be a part of this meaningful movement. Together, we can make a difference, one smile, one cake, one brave heart at a time,” said Zaakira Bhika.
