Laudium SAPS schools Andrew Anthony School learners on bullying…

Inspector Simon Chokoe addressing the learners at Andrew Anthony Primary School.

The Laudium Police held an Anti-Bullying Safer School Program last Tuesday (Feb 17) where Gr R-3 learners from Andrew Anthony Primary were addressed, mainly on bullying in schools.

Various components of the Police took part in the Safer School Program, including, the South African Police Service in Laudium, Crime Prevention Unit including Social Crime Prevention, Kopano Manyano NPO Victim Empowerment Centre and the Youth Crime Prevention Desk.

Learners were sensitized about bullying, fighting, gangsterism and the danger of substance abuse. They were also taught how the actions of such illegal activities affected the learners, their families and the community. The learners were also told to:

  • Respect one another and their teachers.
  • Set up goals for themselves to achieve.
  • Learners were warned to exercise patience while crossing the roads and do so only when it’s safe.
  • Learners were also warned not to go with strangers.
  • Learners were further warned not to allow themselves to be used in the commission of any crime.
  • Learners were also encouraged to report any sort of crime to the Police.

The team took the opportunity to welcome all learners back to school.
The program has reached about four hundred and forty six learners.
Police have committed to patrol the areas of all schools to ensure that learners are and feel safe.
