LCSA celebrates Women’s Month with flair: A Focus on Health and Dignity

In a wonderful tribute to Women’s Month, Laudium Care Services for the Aged (LCSA) hosted a special celebration last Thursday (August 21) honoring the incredible women within the community.

The event, held at the Ballroom at Hanifa Centre on Bengal Street, which was generously sponsored by Joe Bhidia, was a testament to LCSA’s commitment to the health, well being, and dignity of its senior citizens.

The celebration, made possible with the generous sponsorship of National Medical Supplies – Women’s Health Care, went beyond a simple gathering, focusing on empowering seniors with knowledge and fostering a sense of community. The atmosphere was filled with joy and camaraderie as attendees were treated to a day of insightful talks, delicious food, and spirited performances by the talented seniors of LCSA. A highlight of the day was the keynote address by renowned expert Prof Zeelha Abdool, a specialist Urogynaecologist and consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Drawing from her extensive expertise, which includes a PhD in pelvic floor morphology and publications in peer-reviewed journals, Prof Abdool provided an enlightening talk on women’s health matters. Her insights, particularly on the importance of addressing conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, resonated deeply with the audience. National Medical Supplies, the events sponsor, supports this focus by offering innovative medical devices designed to empower women to regain control over their health, including MVA systems for uterine evacuation and NMS Silicone Vaginal Pessaries for uterine prolapse. The talk underscored the importance of proactive and dignified care, a core principle of LCSA’s mission. In addition to the medical insights, attendees were also captivated by the talk from sister Shareefa Kalla, who emphasized the importance of mindfulness for overall well being. The combination of physical and mental health topics reflected a holistic approach to senior care, a philosophy at the heart of LCSA’s services. Beyond the formal presentations, the event was a vibrant showcase of talent and spirit. The seniors of Laudium Care Services for the Aged delighted everyone with their performances, demonstrating that age is no barrier to creativity and passion. The celebration culminated in a scrumptious lunch, providing an opportunity for seniors to socialize and connect in a warm, welcoming environment. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggles and triumphs of women, echoing the sentiments of Women’s Month.

It highlighted the need to go “beyond celebration” and actively advance women’s rights and dignity, as highlighted in a recent article by Mohamed Saeed. This includes not only celebrating historic struggles but also addressing current challenges such as domestic violence and the impact of conflict on women globally. The event’s focus on health, dignity, and community aligns with this broader call for social justice and a well-lived life for all. Laudium Care Services for the Aged is a non-profit social service organization dedicated to supporting the aged in the Laudium / Pretoria community. Its mission is to enable seniors to age gracefully with dignity, providing them with a safe and caring environment where they can thrive. As a non-profit, LCSA relies on the generosity of donors to fund its operational expenses and continue providing these essential services to the seniors who depend on them. We appeal to the community for support to help us continue this vital work.
