Synopsis:
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules. Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around. With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal.
Sun Review:
This time around, M3GAN’s not the only murderous robot in town. Enter Amelia — the sleek, soulless, military-grade android who’s basically what would happen if ChatGPT and Mission: Impossible had a violent baby. She’s stronger, scarier, and armed with more tech than a Brooklyn boy with a gaming rig. The film starts off surprisingly smart, giving us a glimpse into Gemma’s new life as a public figure and A.I. whistleblower. There’s commentary on government surveillance, corporate greed, and parental paranoia. But don’t get too comfortable — once the action kicks in, it’s all about explosions, evil smirks, and enough slow-motion fight scenes to make you wonder if James Cameron secretly ghost directed. Is it ridiculous? Oh, absolutely. Is it entertaining? Also yes. The original M3GAN went viral for its creepy sass, TikTok-ready dance moves, and campy horror. M3GAN 2.0 ups the budget, the body count, and the action — but in doing so, it loses a bit of the originality that made the first film so deliciously unhinged. Still, the final showdown between M3GAN and Amelia? Worth the price of popcorn. It’s the robo-girl boss battle we didn’t know we needed — complete with one-liners, fashion, and enough savagery to make even your microwave feel self-conscious.
Sun Verdict:
Not as smart as it wants to be, but a wild ride nonetheless. If you loved the first M3GAN, this sequel gives you more chaos, more camp, and way more combat boots.
