Last Friday (August 16), a high level delegation from the Tshwane Council visited Ward 61, (including Laudium, Erasmia, and Itireleng). The delegation which was led by Alderman Dana Wannenburg (MMC for Corporate and Shared Services), and senior officials from the Tshwane Council, was joined by local Ward Councillor Naeem Patel. The visit involved meeting with relevant stakeholders in the area to address pressing community concerns which included;
Key Issues:
- Safety and Security: Addressing illegal businesses and electricity connections requires urgent action.
- Infrastructure: Persistent issues with potholes and delayed water pipe repairs need immediate attention.
- Recycling: Discussions to establish a multipurpose recycling facility with the Department of Waste Management, to identify suitable land.
- Illegal Structures: Strengthening enforcement against unauthorized constructions and taxi ranks is necessary.
- Community Involvement: Encouraging community participation in maintaining public spaces and enhancing safety.
- Feeding Schemes: Managing and regulating the various feeding schemes in Laudium effectively.
- Urban Renewal: Re-purposing derelict buildings in the Laudium CBD for community benefit.
- Recreational Facilities: Revitalizing sports facilities in collaboration with local schools.
MMC Wannenburg told the Laudium Sun, ”Our next step is to prioritize infrastructure repairs, enhance law enforcement, support community efforts, and explore property redevelopment and facility revitalization.”
