Devoted preacher of Dawat-e-Islami and a righteous scholar has departed from this world.
Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi Attari, a preacher of Dawat-e-Islami and a pious Islamic scholar, had been suffering from cancer for several months. Haji Muhammad Khalid Attari (U.K.), a preacher of Dawat-e-Islami, shared the news on the central Majlis-e Shura WhatsApp group on the 4th of Shawwal 1446 AH, at 7:50pm, that Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi had passed away. Hearing this news brought sadness, and it reminded us that death is uncertain. May the Almighty grant Mufti Sahib complete forgiveness and bless him with a high rank in Jannat-ul-Firdous. According to the Gregorian calendar, Mufti Sahib lived for 58 years.
A Brief Introduction to Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi Sahib:
Birth: Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi Attari was born on August 1, 1966, in Purani Chishtian Sharif, District Bahawalnagar, Punjab, Pakistan, in a scholarly family. He was a Quranic commentator, author of Islamic books, teacher of the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum, Sheikh-ul-Hadith, preacher of Dawat-e-Islami, and a man of both external and internal excellence. Alongside Urdu, he was also an eloquent speaker in English. Many non-Muslims embraced Islam at his hands and joined the fold of Islam.
Introduction to Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi’s Father:
Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi’s esteemed father, Ustaz-ul-Ulama Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Abdun Karim Rizvi Chishti (RH), was a Hafiz of the Quran, a graduate of Darul Uloom Manzar-e-Islam, Bareilly Sharif, and a student of Muhaddith-e-Azam Pakistan. He was a practicing Islamic scholar, a teacher at Jamia Fakhr-ul Madaris, Dargah Aaliya Mahar Sharif, Chishtian, and a mentor to many scholars.
Birth & Passing:
He was born in 1338 AH (1920 CE) in Union Council Sabay Wala, Tehsil Jatoi, District Muzaffargarh, Punjab. He passed away on 5th Safar 1398 AH (15th January 1978 CE) in Mahar Sharif, Chishtian Sharif, District Bahawalnagar. His burial took place in the courtyard of the shrine of Khwaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi (RH), in Mahar Sharif.
Education & Teaching Career:
He received his early education in his birthplace, Jamia Fakhr-ul-Madaris Mahar Sharif, and later at Darul Uloom Manzar-e Islam, Bareilly Sharif. In 1940, he completed his Hadith studies under Muhaddith-e-Azam Pakistan, Allama Sardar Ahmad Chishti (RH). After graduating, he taught the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum in Multan and later in Kot Mithan Sharif.
Pilgrimage & Spiritual Allegiance:
In 1948, he was blessed with the opportunity to visit the Haramain Sharifain (Makkah & Madinah) and perform Hajj. He took spiritual allegiance (Bay’ah) in the Chishti Nizami Sufi Order under Sheikh Tariqat Khwaja Muhammad Hussain Bakhsh Chishti Nizami of Multan Sharif.
Religious Services:
In 1958, the late Sajjada Nashin & great scholar Hazrat Khwaja Noor Jehanian (RH) entrusted him with the responsibilities of:
- Leading prayers (Imamat) and delivering sermons (Khutbah) at Masjid Khwaja Noor Muhammad Maharvi, Chishtian Sharif
- Teaching at Jamia Fakhr-ul-Madaris, Mahar Sharif He remained in these roles until his passing.
Family & Legacy:
The Almighty blessed him with five daughters and four sons. Among them, two became distinguished Islamic scholars:

Introduction to Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi
Education and Training:
Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi began his Quran memorisation (Hifz) and early education in Purani Chishtian Sharif under the guidance of his father and other scholars. He then enrolled at Jamia Naeemia, Lahore, where he completed his initial studies. Later, he became a student of Ustaz-ul Ulama, master of both rational and traditional sciences, Allama Mufti Irshad Ahmed Naqshbandi (RH) of Adda Chabb, District Khanewal. He completed his Dawrah Hadith (final year of Islamic studies) at Jamia Mazhar-ul-Islam, Haroonabad, District Bahawalnagar. Murshid-ul-Arifeen Hazrat Khwaja Hussain Bakhsh Siddiqui Multani. Hazrat Khwaja Hussain Bakhsh Siddiqui Multani was born in 1299 AH into the household of Khwaja Muhammad Nizam Bakhsh Multani. His lineage is as follows: Khwaja Hussain Bakhsh bin Khwaja Muhammad Nizam Bakhsh bin Khwaja Khuda Bakhsh Mahboob Allah Thani. The last-mentioned, Khwaja Khuda Bakhsh Mahboob Allah Thani, was the Khalifa of Khwaja Muhammad Musa Chishti, whose shrine is located in Mohalla Kaman Garan, Androon Hussain Agahi, Multan. Khwaja Muhammad Musa Chishti was, in turn, the Khalifa of the renowned Wali Allah, Hazrat Khwaja Khuda Bakhsh Mahboob Allah of Dargah Aaliya Khairpur Tamiwali, and a
Khalifa of Hafiz Jamalullah Multani. Khwaja Hussain Bakhsh acquired Islamic sciences and spiritual training from both his grandfather and Khwaja Muhammad Musa Chishti, receiving Khilafat (spiritual succession) through them. He was known for his intense devotion and worship. For forty years, he completed the recitation of the Quran every three days and performed 500 voluntary (Nafl) prayers daily. He passed away on 5th Muharram 1370 AH. (Al-Yawaqit Al-Mahariyah, p. 129) Ustaz-ul-Ulama, Master of Rational and Traditional Sciences, Allama Mufti Muhammad Irshad Ahmad Naqshbandi. Allama Mufti Muhammad Irshad Ahmad Naqshbandi was among the prominent scholars of Ahl-e-Sunnat. He established the prestigious Islamic institution, Jamia Ghausia Ahsan-ul-Madaris, in Adda Chabb, Thana, Tehsil Mian Channu, District Khanewal. He passed away on 27th Sha’ban 1437 AH (June 4, 2016 CE). He took Bay’ah (spiritual allegiance) with Sahibzada Qutb-e-Madina Hazrat Maulana Hafiz Fazl-ur- Rahman Madani (RH) and later became a student of Ameer-e-Ahl-e Sunnat, Hazrat Allama Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri (DB). However, he became popularly known as “Hamidi” due to his family’s association with Hazrat Hameed-ud-Din (RH).
Religious Services:
After graduating, he remained engaged in teaching, leading prayers (Imamat), and delivering sermons (Khutbah) in Pakistan. He also learned spoken English and later moved to South Africa as an Imam and Khateeb. There, he became actively involved with Dawat-e-Islami’s religious environment. Once, during a visit to the Global Madani Center, Faizan-e-Madina, Karachi, he shared with the writer (as a form of gratitude to Allah) that: “Before joining Dawat-e-Islami, I was engaged in Imamat, Khutbah, and teaching. However, after joining this spiritual movement, I was blessed with the opportunity to propagate Islam and undertake many other religious endeavors. I was also fortunate to contribute to the construction of several mosques and Islamic seminaries (Madaris). Moreover, I had the honor of writing the book ‘Welcome to Islam’, translating Kanz-ul-Iman into English, and composing an English commentary of the Quran titled ‘Misbah-ul Ehsan’.”
Final Prayers:
May the Almighty accept his religious services, grant him complete forgiveness, and admit him into Jannat-ul-Firdous without reckoning. Ameen, Bi Jahi Khatam un-Nabiyeen (SAW).

Hazrat Maulana Hafiz Fazl-ur-Rahman Qadri Madani (RH) was born in 1344 AH in Mohalla Bab-us-Salam, Zuqaq al-Zarandi, Madinah Munawwarah. He passed away on 27th Shawwal 1423 AH, and his burial took place in Jannat-ul-Baqi. He was a renowned Islamic scholar, an excellent Qari, and a Sheikh of Tariqah (spiritual guide). Ameer-e-Ahl-e-Sunnat, Allama Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri (Madda Zilluhu), received Khilafat in multiple spiritual orders from him. (Sayyidi Ziauddin Ahmad Qadri, Anwar-e-Qutb-e-Madina, pp.
406/2 to 417, p. 576; Ta’aruf Ameere-Ahl-e Sunnat, p. 73).
We are deeply saddened by the demise of Mufti Abdun Nabi Hamidi Saheb, the first president of the Sunni Ulama Council of Gauteng. His significant work and contribution to the broader Sunni community will always be recognised and valued. During his tenure as one of the Deputy Presidents of the United Ulama Council South Africa (UUCSA), he also played a vital role in serving the greater Muslim population of South Africa. He will be remembered for his unwavering and fearless stance on the principles of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaat, and left behind a legacy of commitment for others to follow. May the Almighty reward him abundantly for all his good work, Dawah and all the knowledge and wisdom that he imparted and all the service he has redered for the Deen of Islam.
May his good actions be a source of inspiration to those who follow and a source of blessings in the hereafter with the barakah our beloved Hazrat Khwaja Ghareeb Un Nawaaz (Rd.)

He was the teacher of hundreds of scholars, he authored many books, translated many books, and tirelessly served the Deen of the Almighty Ta’ala, travelling to many parts of the world to deliver his thought-provoking, insightful and powerful discourses. This is indeed a great loss for the Ahle Sunnah.
We convey our sympathy and condolences to the family of Mufti Saheb Qibla with immense grief and sadness. We make Dua that the Almighty, in His Infinite Mercy and through the Waseelah of the Beloved Habeeb (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) grant him forgiveness, fill his Qabr with Noor and grant him a lofty status and station in the Hereafter in the company of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).
