Marhooma Rabia Osman (81)
Born: March 26, 1945
Passed On: May 17, 2026
With deep sorrow and profound gratitude to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala for a life of service, compassion, and faith, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, healer.
Born on 26 March 1945 to the late Aboo and Fatima Carrim, Marhooma Rabia hailed from the well-known and respected Kismet family of Laudium. She was the beloved wife of the late Mohamed Osman (Plastics), and a devoted mother to Imtiaz (Immy – City Medical), Aslam, Ashraf, and Shabnam. She was also the cherished sister of Bashir and Baboo Kismet. Marhooma Rabia Osman lived a life dedicated to the service of humanity. She was known across South Africa and internationally for the remarkable gift bestowed upon her by the Almighty to assist those suffering from slipped discs and related ailments. Thousands of people, from all walks of life — irrespective of race, colour, creed, or religion — benefited from her care, compassion, and healing hands. Local doctors, specialists, and surgeons often referred patients to her, bearing testimony to the relief and comfort many experienced through her assistance, which she rendered solely for the pleasure of the Almighty. Such was her dedication that she continued helping patients until just a day before being admitted to hospital. Beyond her healing work, Marhooma Rabia was deeply committed to Islamic education and community upliftment. She served as a teacher at the PMT Madressa in its early days, where she taught Qur’an and various Islamic subjects alongside legendary educators such as the late Imaam Putoo, Hafez Ashraf Moosa Carrim and Mufti Akbar Hazarvi Generations of students remain indebted to her patience, wisdom, and nurturing guidance. For more than 30 years, Marhooma Rabia Osman worked closely with the Sultan Bahu Centre in Johannesburg, together with her late husband, Mohamed Osman. Under the spiritual guidance of Sheikh Sayed Ali Chopdat, they dedicated themselves to numerous spiritual, humanitarian, and community development initiatives, touching countless lives through their sincerity and service.
The exceptionally large number of people who attended her janazah and funeral bore testimony to the love, respect, and admiration people held for her. Hearts from near and far stood witness to a life spent in the service of the Almighty and humanity.
Marhooma Rabia Osman will be remembered not only for her extraordinary compassion and selflessness, but for the dignity, humility, and unwavering faith with which she lived her life. Her home was one of comfort, prayer, service and generosity… always open to those in need. May the Almighty forgive her shortcomings, illuminate and expand her qabr, accept her lifelong service to humanity as sadaqah jaariyah, and grant her the highest stages of Jannatul Firdaus. May He also grant sabr-e-jameel to all her family, friends, students, and the thousands whose lives she touched.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”
“Surely we belong to the Almighty and to Him shall we return.”

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2
Timothy 4:7
Today, we gather to honour and remember a life that was lived with strength, dignity, and unwavering faith. These powerful words from Scripture beautifully reflect the journey of our dearly departed, who has now found eternal rest. Throughout their life, they faced challenges with courage and resilience, always standing firm in their beliefs and values. Like the Apostle Paul, they fought the good fight—not with anger, but with grace, kindness, and a heart full of compassion. Their actions spoke of love, their words brought comfort and their presence was a blessing to all who knew them. They ran their race with perseverance, never giving up even in difficult times. Through moments of joy and hardship, they remained committed to their faith and to the people they loved. Their life was a testimony of dedication, humility and strength. Most importantly, they kept the faith. Their trust in God never wavered, and this faith guided them in every step of their journey. It is this same faith that gives us comfort today, knowing that they are now in a place of peace, embraced by God’s eternal love. Though we mourn their passing, we also celebrate a life well lived. Their legacy will continue to live on in our hearts, in the memories we cherish, and in the values they instilled in us. May we find strength in their example and comfort in God’s promise of eternal life.
Rest in peace.
