Respected educator and local resident, Ricky Moodley, started his teaching career in 1989 at the age of just 22, embarking on a journey that would span more than 3 decades in the field of education. He first started at Progress Primary School in Lenasia, then was appointed as an itinerant music teacher for two years, moving between Andrew Anthony and Laudium Primary School. In 1991, Ricky was permanently appointed at Andrew Anthony, where he taught the subjects closest to his heart; English and Geography. Recognized for his leadership abilities, he was promoted to the position of Departmental Head for English Home Language and Social Sciences. In 2004, he became Deputy Principal at Brindhaven Primary school in Lotus Gardens, where his strong leadership skills were recognized by Tshwane West District Officials. Five years later, in 2009, he reached yet another milestone in his career, when he was appointed Principal at Omar HS Ebrahim Primary School in Lotus Gardens. For the past 17 years, Ricky has served the school with dedication and commitment. Now, as the time has come for Ricky to take a well-deserved rest, staff members emotionally bid him farewell at a special function hosted for him, with many teachers tearfully paying tribute to ‘a man who has been devoted to education.’ One teacher added, “His departure marks the end of an era, but his legacy will undoubtedly live on, in the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey in education.” Ricky told the Laudium Sun, “In my 37 years in education, I have learned that in order to be a good leader, one must be willing to serve with humility, gentleness and kindness.”
