The recent heavy rains saw many roads closed in the Centurion area, due to low- lying bridges being flooded.

In Laudium, many trees were uprooted and several graves at the Laudium Cemetery sank. The Laudium Sun team visited the Laudium Cemetery and caught up with groups of workmen filling up the graves this past Wednesday (Nov 9).

Shakeel Amod of Muslim Watch, who employs full time assistants to help with the cleaning of the graveyard, told the Laudium Sun, “We, together with another volunteer group,
immediately ordered sand to fill the graves, after discovering that many of the graves had collapsed. We also employed people on a temporary basis to assist with filling up the graves quickly. We could not wait for the Council to come and fill up the graves as they already complained that they have no money to replace the stolen fencing at the Cemetery. The situation was urgent as some of the graves collapsed quite deep in
and had to be attended to immediately.”

A project sponsored by locals: The Laudium Sun captured these scenes of workmen filling up the sunken graves at the Laudium Cemetery.
