Safety in review as CPF safely reports at AGM

The Laudium Community Policing Forum (CPF) successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this past Wednesday (January 29), providing a comprehensive report back to the community on its activities, achievements, and ongoing efforts in crime prevention and public safety.

The AGM focused on reviewing the CPF’s work over the past year, highlighting key developments in strengthening partnerships, enhancing security measures, and increasing community engagement. The CPF continues to play a vital role in supporting the South African Police Service (SAPS), TMPD,
Crime Prevention Wardens, private security companies, and other stakeholders in the fight against crime in Laudium.

Among the key highlights of the report presented at the AGM were:

Enhanced Community Engagement and Partnerships:

The CPF has maintained regular engagement with SAPS through weekly SCCF meetings, ensuring improved communication and coordination in crime fighting efforts. The CPF also strengthened its relationship with Councillor Naeem Patel, working together on safety initiatives and service delivery matters affecting the community. Collaborations with security service providers have further bolstered crime prevention efforts.

Capacity Building and Development:
The CPF successfully established a new Youth Desk, providing a platform for young people to actively participate in community policing. A new Patrollers Commander was appointed to enhance leadership within the patrollers’ structure, and all patrollers underwent comprehensive training to improve their skills in crime prevention and emergency response. The CPF also expanded its team with the recruitment of new patrollers, increasing visibility and coverage in the community.

Infrastructure and Resources:

Security measures will be reinforced with the installation of three surveillance cameras in key areas of Laudium, facilitated through Gauteng Community Safety which will be done during this year. Additionally, CPF patrollers received upgraded equipment, including car magnets, torches, tape, cones, and two-way radios, improving their efficiency and safety on the ground.

Financial Stability and Transparency:
The CPF’s financial report highlighted funds raised through donations and a fundraising event in 2023. Careful financial management ensured that expenditures were aligned with operational needs, maintaining a stable financial position to support future CPF initiatives.

Governance and Administrative Improvements:

The CPF adjusted its financial year to start on January 1, 2025, and end on December 31, 2025, ensuring more effective financial planning. Amendments to the CPF constitution were also introduced to align with the organization’s evolving needs and long-term goals.

Commitment to a Safer Future:
One of the major concerns raised in the report was the persistent drug problem in Laudium, which continues to impact the community. The CPF remains committed to working closely with SAPS, security companies, Councillor Naeem Patel, and other stakeholders to address drug-related crimes and create a safer environment for all residents. Moving forward, the CPF aims to employ a full-time administrator to enhance operational efficiency, manage community complaints, and oversee CPF activities. Strengthening relationships with private security companies also remains a key priority to enhance crime-fighting efforts through better coordination and resource sharing.

Acknowledgment and Appreciation:

The Laudium CPF extends its sincere appreciation to all concerned community members who attended and participated in the AGM. Your support, involvement, and commitment to safety are crucial in driving the CPF’s efforts forward. We also acknowledge the dedicated efforts of SAPS, TMPD, Crime Prevention Wardens, security companies, and Councillor Naeem Patel, whose collaboration has been instrumental in ensuring safety and security in Laudium. We encourage all residents to remain vigilant, actively participate in crime prevention initiatives, and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more united Laudium.
