Sewage drain leakage on Willem Erasmus Str drains residents due to stench

Despite apartheid activist, Yusuf Abramjee singing praises of Cllr Patel, residents in the area are not singing the same tune for Patel, with many indicating that Patel and his ANC-led Tshwane Council, have failed the community concerning effective service delivery in the area.

*Residents are up in arms as this sewage leak on Willem Erasmus Street, Erasmia, which has been ongoing for a week, has not been attended to by Council.*

The Laudium Sun has once more received numerous complaints, concerning poor service delivery in the area, with one of the latest being a sewage drain, which has been leaking since last Friday (September 19), on Willem Erasmus Street, Erasmia. Despite repeated complaints to the Council and the Councillor, since last week, frustrated residents say that there has still been no response, a week later. Mohamed Sayed, a business owner on Willem Erasmus Street in Erasmia, told the Laudium Sun, “I am deeply disheartened as the sewage drain leakage has been affecting both my health and my business. The smell is unbearable. The leakage started last Friday and up until now, no one from the Council has come to fix it. This is terrible service from the Council because the problem should have been addressed immediately, yet we are still waiting. I am losing customers because of the foul smell and it has become impossible to even walk past the drain. The situation is unacceptable and I hope the Council steps in immediately to resolve it. The service delivery is really poor and this issue must be addressed urgently. We should not be treated as second class citizens.”

Mohammed Suliman, a resident of Willem Erasmus Street in Erasmia, told the Laudium Sun, “This situation is really bad. Why do we always need to complain about service delivery when we are paying rates and taxes? Every time there is a drain leakage or any other Municipal infrastructure problem, we are forced to beg the Tshwane Council to fix it. It feels like the Council does not even care about our community. This drain leakage on our street, which has been going on for about a week, should have been fixed immediately. The smell is unbearable and we cannot tolerate it any longer.”

Hussein Ali, another frustrated Willem Erasmus Street resident, told the Laudium Sun, “The problem of the drain leakage on our street needs to be attended to without further delay by the Councillor and the Council, as it has been going on for days. It should be fixed immediately, as it is extremely bad for our health. The Council should come urgently, but it seems they prefer to take their own time and arrive whenever it suits them. This is unacceptable. The problem needs to be fixed quickly and urgently.”
