Muslims throughout the world will commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), on Sunday evening (Sept 15 – 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1446).
Almighty (SWT) says in the Holy Quran that Muhammad (PBUH) was sent ‘…as a mercy for humankind… [and] all that exists’ (Quran 21 – 107). Many Mosques, Muslim organisations and Muslim families observe this momentous month on the Islamic calender, by hosting Meeladun Nabi (SAW) programmes, where various recitals (naats) are conducted in praise of the Holy Prophet (SAW), after which people from all walks of life within the community- rich and poor- sit side-by-side to partake in special meals in a spirit of brotherhood.
Alphonse de la Martaine (French poet-politician), wrote, ”If greatness of purpose, smallness of means and astonishing results are the three criteria of a human genius, who could dare compare any great man in history with Muhammad? …Philosopher, orator, legislator, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational beliefs… the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire- that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”
