The Blessed Day of 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal (1447)

Muslims throughout the globe and in South Africa, are today commemorating the birth of the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), (Sept 5 – 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1447), with many Mosques throughout the country, including Laudium and Erasmia, glowing with green lights in celebration of the blessed month. Almighty (SWT) says in the Holy Quran that Muhammad (PBUH) was sent ‘…as a mercy for humankind… [and] all that exists’ (Quran 21 – 107). In Young India, Mahatma Gandhi wrote, referring to Prophet Muhammad (SAW): “I wanted to know the best of the life of one who holds today an undisputed sway over the hearts of mankind… I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place for Islam… it was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and in his own mission.”

The streets of Laudium will come alive this afternoon (Sept 5), at the 26th annual Juloos, a procession in honour of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which will commence at around 4:30pm from the PMT Jummah Masjid on Jewel Street, Laudium and end at the Dar ul-Uloom Complex on Taj Street, Laudium.
