Synopsis:
Only one man has the particular set of skills… to lead Police Squad and save the world! Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in The Naked Gun, directed by Akiva Schaffer (Saturday Night Live, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and from producer Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy, American Dad!). Liam Neeson in a spoof comedy? We were skeptical too. But The Naked Gun is a pleasantly bonkers surprise, packed with slapstick, deadpan chaos, and enough laugh out-loud moments to remind us that not every movie needs a moral, a message, or multiverse madness. Directed by Akiva Schaffer and backed by Seth MacFarlane’s brand of bold, irreverent humour, the film picks up the legacy of the original Naked Gun franchise and somehow makes it work in 2025. Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr. is hilariously wooden in the best possible way, bumbling through shootouts, interrogations, and misunderstandings with stone-faced sincerity. It’s clear he’s in on the joke and it makes all the difference. Pamela Anderson brings charm and cheek as the femme-not-so-fatale, while Paul Walter Hauser nearly steals the show with every awkward glance and over-the-top line reading. There’s also a tag-team of scene-stealers (hello, Cody Rhodes and Liza Koshy), ensuring that even the background gags hit. The humour is loud, silly, and proudly lowbrow. Think banana peels, bathroom blunders, and dramatic pauses in all the wrong places. Is it high art? Absolutely not. But is it a good time? Definitely. Some jokes may miss and the film leans a little too hard on callback-style comedy at times, but honestly, that’s part of the charm. This isn’t trying to be subtle. It’s trying to make you giggle. And more often than not, it succeeds.
