Water pipe leaks for days in Erasmia…calls ripe for Patel’s leaking services to be fixed

Why is Patel not telling the truth to residents concerning poor service delivery in Ward 61? This is the question many residents keep on asking.

Poor service delivery, by the ANC-led Tshwane Council and the SAPS remains a huge concern for residents, despite attempts by ‘Changu and Mangu’, (Cllr Patel and CPF chair, Shaheen Wahab), both loyal ANC members, to portray a false impression with their ongoing praises for the relevant departments.

This follows residents of Erasmia yet again complaining of poor service delivery. This time residents of Aletta Street in Erasmia, are furious after several complaints to the Council to fix a broken water pipe have fallen on deaf ears for days. According to residents, the water pipe burst on Sunday (July 6) and since then, they have complained to the Council about clean water flowing continuously, but with no joy.

Water leaked from a pipe (circled) for days, on Aletta Str, Erasmia, leaving residents highly upset.

Despite Cllr Patel stating that the Council was giving priority concerning repairs to water leaks (with residents saying they are not sure when to believe Patel anymore), the leak continued for days, resulting in a great amount of water being wasted. Irfan Haider, a resident of Aletta Street, Erasmia, told the Laudium Sun, this past Tuesday (July 8) “The water pipe has been leaking on Aletta Street since Sunday and a large amount of clean water has been running non-stop, it’s a complete waste. The Council must come and fix it as soon as possible. We have reported the issue, but no one has come to repair the broken pipe. This is really poor service. How can the Council allow so much clean water to be wasted — and then the Council still sends us messages, telling us to use water sparingly.
The service from the Council is terrible and to be honest, our Councillor is not doing a good job at all. All the service delivery issues we face are either being ignored or take a long time to attend to. The Council needs to come and fix this problem immediately. As a resident of Erasmia, I feel we are being completely overlooked. I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to fix a simple broken water pipe, it really shows how neglectful the Councillor has become. We just want the pipe repaired as soon as possible.”

Irfan Haider of Aletta Str asked how the Council can allow so much clean water to be wasted, adding that he can’t understand why it takes so long to fix a simple broken water pipe.

Sara Rahim, also of Aletta Street, told the Laudium Sun, also this past Tuesday, “The water pipe on our street burst a few days ago and the Council still hasn’t come to fix it. It’s been leaking nonstop and all that clean water is going to waste. The council needs to come and fix this as soon as possible, before the residents of Erasmia run out of water. This matter is urgent and cannot be ignored any longer.”

Sara Rahim, also of Aletta Str, said the Council should fix the leaking problem immediately,
before residents of Erasmia run out of water.

Aletta Street resident, Raeesa Khan, said on Tuesday, “Clean water has been leaking on our street for the past three days and the Council still hasn’t come to fix the broken pipe. Clean water is just flowing down the street and no one from the Council has showed up to address the problem. They need to come and fix it immediately.”

The Laudium Sun called the relevant Council department early Wednesday morning (July 9), concerning the water leak complaints and we were assured that the matter would be attended to. At the time of going to press last night (Thursday), residents confirmed that the leak had been repaired.
