Wicked: For Good – Releasing in cinemas – November 21

Synopsis:
Demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) lives in exile in the Ozian forest, while Glinda (Ariana Grande) resides at the palace in Emerald City, reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, she’ll need to reunite with Glinda to transform herself, and all of Oz, for good.

Sun Review:
Part two of the Wicked saga lands with a swirl of magic, emotion, but this time, it feels less like a big-screen blockbuster and more like a Broadway finale, for better or worse. Cynthia Erivo continues to shine as Elphaba, delivering a raw, emotionally layered performance that cements her as the heart of the franchise. Ariana Grande’s Glinda grows into a more nuanced role this time around, stepping out of the bubbly blonde box and showing real depth, especially in the film’s final stretch. But where Part One brought cinematic spectacle, For Good brings something slower and more reflective. The pacing drags in places, with long stretches of character-driven storytelling that will thrill fans of the stage musical, but may leave casual moviegoers wondering when the broomsticks will fly again. That said, there’s still plenty of magic here; the visuals remain stunning, the music soars and the core message of acceptance, transformation and defying expectations hits home. It’s a thoughtful, moving film, just not always an energetic one.

Sun Verdict:
Wicked: For Good trades popcorn thrills for Broadway feels and while that may not enchant everyone, fans of the original musical will find plenty to love. A heartfelt, visually rich ending to Elphaba’s journey, even if it’s not quite as magical for newcomers.
