Foodline’s joint ‘Million Smiles Campaign’, now in it’s second year, has once again brought hope and dignity to the doorstep of hundreds of young girls, with nearly 600 schoolgirls across the area receiving much-needed feminine hygiene packs, ensuring that they can attend school with confidence and without interruption during their monthly cycles. The campaign was supported by several local schools and generous community donors, who rallied around the cause. This past Saturday (November 8), a special ceremony was hosted at Foodline, on Bengal Street, with each participating school receiving a certificate of appreciation. Central Islamic School was honoured with a special shield for raising R30,000 two years in a row. Yasser Ahmed of Foodline thanked the community for backing the campaign and for helping to protect the dignity of female learners.
Foodline in line with ‘Million Smiles Campaign’
Foodline, together with the Ward Councillor, initiated a project last year, to help under-privileged females by assisting them to gain access to feminine hygiene products.
The scourge of monthly cycles rendered many school-going girls helpless, as they were unable to afford sanitary pads. This resulted in them missing valuable school days. Yasser Ahmed from Foodline and Cllr Patel embarked on an ambitious project to raise sufficient money to buy sanitary pads for deserving learners. Their initiative paid off handsomely, as almost 600 learners were assisted to preserve their dignity.
Local schools in the area did not hesitate to join this campaign. The community rallied behind the duo, and the public donated generously to ensure the success of this venture.
“Once again, in 2025, all the role players pitched in yet again, to come to the assistance of our female learners who, without this generous donation, would have suffered the indignity of missing school.
Foodline and the Ward Councillor extend their heartfelt gratitude to the public and all the schools involved in this project. Special mention must be made of Central Islamic School for raising R 30 000-00 two years in a row towards this project,” a representative from Foodline said.
At a handover ceremony at Foodline’s premises on Bengal Street this past Saturday (Nov 8), the public and schools involved were praised for their commitment to the ‘Million Smiles Campaign.’ Representatives from the schools received a certificate for “your remarkable contribution and helping us keep our girls’ dignity when they need it most.”
Central Islamic School received a special shield with the citation “For your humanitarian heart and community empowerment.”
