DA Mayoral Candidate for Tshwane, Cilliers Brink, led a DA march in Laudium against a suspected illegal drug den and brothel this past Tuesday (Sept 8), as concerns continue to grow over drugs, crime and lawlessness affecting the community.
Cilliers was joined by the DA Shadow MEC for Community Safety, Crezane Bosch MPL and the DA Ward 61 Candidate, Anil Paladh, alongside more than 300 DA supporters and community members who took part in the march.
The campaign was aimed at drawing attention to a site that the DA identified as a suspected location linked to illegal activities. During the march, participants pointed out the alleged criminal site to the police and called for the premises to be investigated and shut down if found to be operating illegally.
The action comes amid growing concerns among residents about the impact of drugs and criminal activity on communities in Laudium and surrounding areas, as drug-related activity can have a serious effect on neighbourhoods, with residents concerned about safety, families and young people being exposed to criminal environments.
The march also highlighted the DA’s call for stronger action against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade and other criminal activities. The party said that communities should not be left to deal with lawlessness while illegal operations continue in residential areas.
The DA has described the action as part of its broader campaign to take back Tshwane’s communities from criminals and restore law and order. The march in Laudium was intended to send a message that residents deserve safe neighbourhoods and that authorities must respond to reports of suspected illegal activities.
The presence of community members and DA supporters demonstrated the concern surrounding crime and drugs in the area. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about criminal activity and the need for stronger law enforcement and better co-operation between communities and the police.
Cilliers and the DA called for decisive action against those who are allegedly involved in activities that threaten the safety and well-being of the community. The campaign also placed emphasis on the need for law enforcement authorities to investigate suspected illegal operations and take appropriate action where wrongdoing is established.
The march comes as political parties prepare for the upcoming local government elections, with crime and service delivery expected to remain important issues for residents across Tshwane.
The DA said its campaign would continue to focus on restoring law and order and ensuring that communities such as Laudium are not allowed to become safe havens for criminal activity.
