Calls for Erasmia men to ‘Stand Up’ and join the Community in Blue!

A safer Erasmia starts with you We are calling on all men in our community, fathers, brothers, sons, neighbours, to step forward and join the Community in Blue (CIB) movement. Whether you’re in Sectors 1 through 5, your presence, commitment, and courage are needed.
The Community in Blue is the beating heart of real, on-the-ground community safety. And we want every male resident to be part of it.

Why YOU should register as a Community in Blue Patroller?

  1. You Gain Training & Credibility CIB registration through the CPF includes formal training in patrol procedure, first aid, radio communication and conflict handling. You will also be issued official gear, jackets, caps, decals, so your presence is known, respected, and trusted in public.
  2. You Are The Eyes & Ears of SAPS As a registered patroller, your observations and reports directly help SAPS plan and respond more effectively. Your input strengthens intelligence networks and puts pressure on criminal activity. CIB patrollers are not vigilantes, they are trusted civilian partners of SAPS.
  3. You Deter Crime by Just Being Visible Research has shown and proved that areas with active patrollers see a decrease in crime up to 70%. Your visible presence at intersections, hotspots, schools, and parks sends a clear message: “We protect our streets. This community is not an easy target.”
  4. You Get Access to SAPS Communication Channels Community in Blue members have direct radio contact during emergencies and crime response coordination. This improves reaction time and increases successful interventions.
  5. You Will Be Supported, Recognised & Backed CPF oversight ensures professionalism, accountability, and structure, no one walks alone. Patrol logs, radios, team briefs, group messaging, it’s coordinated and efficient.
  6. You Will Be Equipped to Help Beyond Crime You’ll be trained to assist at accident scenes, fires, and emergencies, controlling traffic, calling for help, and possibly saving lives before responders arrive.
  7. You Build Trust in Your Community When residents see you in official CIB gear, they know someone cares. Registered patrollers win public trust, especially among women, children, and elders who feel safer with visible, responsible men nearby.
    What Do Registered Patrollers Actually Do?
  • Patrol hotspots, business areas, places of worship, parks and schools
  • Observe, log, and report suspicious behavior.
  • Respond to accidents, fires, and emergencies.
  • Engage in cleanups, street light inspections, and safety audits.
  • Help monitor illegal dumping, vagrancy, or loitering.
  • Join CPF community meetings and roll calls.

Where It’s Already Working:
Soweto: A local school partnered with CIB to ensure safe routes to and from school, drastically reducing harassment cases. Randburg: Anti-social behavior and thefts dropped significantly after a group of trained CIB patrollers increased visibility and worked with CPF and SAPS to secure high-crime areas. Mitchells Plain: Night patrols co-ordinated through the CPF helped prevent gang-related activities and kept loiterers away from residential streets.
