The Grade 10 learners at Central Islamic School spent a day recently, looking into the lives of the visually impaired, as The Garden Social Services’ Home for the Visually Impaired raised awareness, educating learners on how the visually impaired read, write and learn via braille.

Learners then proceeded to ‘adopt’ a child from the centre, treating them to a day filled with fun, excitement and many learning opportunities.
The Grade 10 learners became an aid for the children, allowing them to experience some of the difficulties the visually impaired experience on a day-to-day basis. The children from the centre were treated to an all expenses paid shopping spree at Foodline, purchasing many treats for them to take home with them. This was followed by a trip to Palm Grove in Erasmia, where the learners from CIS performed several excellent nasheeds, speeches and qiraat recitations. On behalf of Central Islamic School, I would like to thank The Garden Social Services, The Home for the Visually Impaired and all involved for making this program a great success.
