The blessed festival of sacrifice, Eid-ul-Adha 1446, will be celebrated tomorrow (Saturday, June 7), during the significant period of Hajj. Muslims across the world, including South Africa, will be practicing the act of Qurbani – the sacrifice of a sheep or goat. The sacrifice that is an integral part of Qurbani, recalls the millennia-old act of faith by the beloved Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was prepared to sacrifice his own son, Ismail (AS) for the pleasure of the Almighty alone. A sheep was then put, by the will of the most merciful Almighty, in place of Ismail (AS). Since then, Muslims perform the Qurbani annually during the Hajj period. Devotees are encouraged to develop a bond with the intended sacrificial animal to add depth to the sacrifice that will follow. The Laudium Sun joins the Essop family in wishing the entire Muslim community a joyous and blessed Eid, filled with peace, happiness and prosperity. May this special day bring you closer to your dear ones and strengthen the spirit of unity, compassion and gratitude. Eid Mubarak! Our thoughts are also with those who are on pilgrimage in Makkah. May their Hajj be accepted and their return home safe.
