
The Shri Kalikambal Kovil a Non-Profit Organisation, hosted a memorable seniors’ event at the Laudium Civic Center this past Saturday (May 31).

Laughter, music and fond memories filled the Laudium Civic Centre this past Saturday (May
31), as the Shri Kalikambal Kovil, a non-profit organisation, hosted a heartwarming “Back to School” themed event for seniors from Laudium to Midrand. The day started with a light breakfast, followed by a delicious lunch and non-stop entertainment. Seniors took part in fun games, sang along to old classics, and even danced to familiar tunes. Bollywood artist, Hemalee Chhiba from Lenasia, captivated the crowd with her melodious singing, while the
always-popular Laudium Golden Stars brought energy and joy to the stage. A number of guests, including the well-kmown Pastor Kevin Naicker, also offered uplifting words and encouragement to the seniors. Organisers; Allouise Bhowan, Lalita Pillay and Savi Moonsamy told the Laudium Sun, “The event was to honour all seniors from Laudium to Midrand for their contribution to our communities. Their wisdom and experience were recognized and celebrated, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this event a resounding success. A special thanks goes to Guru Emmanuel for his guidance and support, which made this event truly unforgettable.”
The event celebrated the vibrancy and spirit of our esteemed seniors, while the theme, “Back to School,” brought out the playful and nostalgic side of our guests.
Event Highlights
The event featured a delightful light breakfast to start the day, followed by a satisfying lunch, carefully prepared to cater to our seniors’ tastes. Throughout the day, our guests enjoyed a variety of entertainment, including:
Games: Engaging activities that sparked friendly competition and camaraderie.
Dancing: Upbeat music that got everyone moving and grooving.
Special Performance: artist Hemalee Chhiba from Lenasia mesmerized the crowd with her talents.
Singing Sensation: The Laudium Golden Stars, a senior citizens’ group, dazzled the audience with their energetic and heartfelt performances.
Distinguished Guests
We were honored to have the following special guests address our seniors:- Naeem Patel: Ward Councillor, who shared inspiring words and updates on community initiatives.- Theresa Mashabawe: Social Worker from Tshwane District, CSDS, Region 1 who emphasized the importance of social support and resources.
Judy Apies: Social Worker from Tshwane District, CSDS, Region 2 (who provided valuable insights and guidance on accessing social services.
Paster Kevin Naicker: From the Bethesda Revival Church offered blessings and words
of encouragement.
Hemalee and Sur Chhiba, Hemalee is a Local Artist from Lenasia who thrilled the audience with her performance. We’re grateful to our distinguished guests for taking the time to join us and share their wisdom.
