Residents of Laudium are still reeling in shock, after what many have described as one of the community’s darkest and most emotionally draining weeks in recent memory. In the space of just a few days, the community lost three respected and beloved elder residents, leaving a deep void that will not easily be filled. The heartbreaking sequence of events began on Friday (July 25), with the passing of 90-year-old uncle Narottam Valji of Himalaya Street. Then, just days later, on Tuesday (July 29), the community was shaken once again as news broke of the passing of uncle Omar Carrim (84) of 3rd Avenue. The very next day, Wednesday (July 30), uncle Ebrahim Suliman Dockrat (82) of Pendant Street, also sadly departed from this world, completing a trio of profound losses that left Laudium grieving as one. These were not just ordinary men. These were pioneers, men who, through hard work,
humility and sheer dedication, helped shape the community into what it is today. Each of them was a successful businessman in his own right, but beyond the business acumen, what stood out most was their unwavering commitment to uplifting others. Whether it was through their philanthropy, religious activity, sporting fervor or community welfare, uncles; Narottam, Omar and Ebrahim were known for putting others before themselves. Their generosity came from the heart and touched many lives. The Laudium Sun joins the community at large, in offering heartfelt condolences to the Valji, Carrim and Dockrat families during this very difficult time.
