Over 6 000 light up for Palestine at Annual Neon Walk… Al Jama-ah, ActionSA, ANC & EFF at event
A powerful display of unity, solidarity and unwavering support for the oppressed people of Palestine was displayed on Friday evening (Oct 9) in Erasmia.

This, as the streets of Erasmia came alive with colour, light and a powerful spirit of solidarity with over 6 000 people from all walks of life gathering at Al Ghazali College, Erasmia, for the Annual Neon Walk for Freedom, hosted by Al Ghazali College in conjunction with Imaam Al Ghazali Global Relief.
The much-anticipated event once again brought together thousands of people united by a
common purpose: to raise awareness, demonstrate solidarity and support the oppressed Palestinian people.
Regarded by many as Pretoria’s largest annual pro-Palestine march, the Neon Walk for Freedom has become a significant event on the community calendar, reflecting the continued commitment of people across generations and backgrounds to the Palestinian cause.
Beyond the impressive turnout, the event carried an important message: solidarity must extend beyond words and symbolic gestures. Organisers emphasised the importance of sustained awareness, meaningful involvement and taking consumer boycotts seriously as part of ongoing peaceful advocacy for Palestinian rights. The evening featured a vibrant and inspiring programme, including the Pretoria Muslim Youth Brigade, moving youth Zikr recitations, passionate pro-Palestine speeches and a wonderful variety of stalls and vendors. The atmosphere was one of togetherness, determination and community spirit, with families, young people and elderly supporters standing shoulder to shoulder.

The overwhelming participation of more than 6 000 supporters was a testament to the community’s enduring solidarity and its determination to keep the plight of the Palestinian people in the public consciousness. A special tribute went to the dedicated teachers and learners of Al Ghazali College, whose voluntary service, commitment and tireless efforts contributed significantly to the success of the event.
The organisers also extended their heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers, participating organisations, vendors and wider community for their invaluable contributions.

As another successful Neon Walk for Freedom concluded, its message remained clear: the Palestinian people have not been forgotten, and the community’s commitment to raising awareness and providing support continues. One community. One voice. One cause. FREE, FREE PALESTINE!
Spotted at the march was Al Jama-ah’s Faizel Jappie (Ward candidate for Ward 61) and PR Cllr Prajay Ramjee, who stated repeatedly that he supports the cause of the Palestinian people. Also present was the EFF and the local ANC, who had a stall at the event to promote the ANC’s policies.
