In a wonderful display of compassion and warmth, cancer patients, caregivers and well-wishers were given a special treat at the Silver Crescent Gardens Hall this past Wednesday (Dec 4), hosted by Laudium Cancer Care (LCC).
For many of the patients, this was a special event that gave them the opportunity to meet with other cancer patients and draw strength from one another in the difficult journey of beating cancer.

In a short speech that extolled the virtues of persevering in the face of adversity, patients and caregivers were celebrated for the special role they play in what has now become the new pandemic – cancer.

The words of Maya Angelou “I can be charged by what happens to me, but I refuse to be reduced by it” rang true for many patients as they thought of their challenges on this difficult journey to overcome their cancer. A short prayer was made for those who succumbed to their illness, some after many years of fighting and others after just a brief battle with cancer.
Adding a poignant touch to the event, LCC honoured the memories of two of it’s late founding members, Mariam Bhika and Noorjehan Cassim. Their dedication and compassion laid the foundation for the organization’s impactful work.
Commemorative plaques were presented in their honour, reminding all present of the legacy they have left behind.
The event concluded with a delightful lunch and a spread of tea time goodies, providing the perfect opportunity for patients and volunteers to connect and reflect on the day’s uplifting moments.

A member of the LCC told the Laudium Sun, “Laudium Cancer Care extends its heartfelt gratitude to the donors and community members whose generosity and support made this special event possible. Together, we continue to walk hand in hand with our cancer warriors, celebrating their strength and ensuring they never walk alone.

The Laudium Cancer Care Group, with their dedicated volunteers and paid staff, continues to support cancer patients in their difficult journey and to assist in easing the pain and challenges of dealing with cancer and its impact on all spheres of their lives.
As the group continues its vital work, the special event and luncheon fostered a sense of community, offering patients a brief respite from their challenges, with one of the attendees saying, “This is a reminder that we are not alone in our fight.” Many of the cancer patients left with smiles and the promise of continued community support.
