Laudium CHC hosts healthy Men’s Health Awareness event in Ldm CBD

The Laudium Community Health Centre (CHC) once more brought health services directly to the people… this time a Men’s Health and Awareness Outreach Programme, held at the Laudium Taxi Rank last Friday (Oct 31).

The Laudium Sun freelance photographer, Manash Das, captured these scenes at the CHC outreach programme, held at the Laudium Taxi Rank last Friday (Oct 31)..

The initiative aimed to empower men to take charge of their health by promoting early detection, prevention and management of common men’s health conditions.

The programme focused on raising awareness of critical health issues affecting men, including prostate cancer, hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and oral hygiene. Participants were educated on warning signs, preventive measures and healthy lifestyle practices, with special emphasis on men over 40 and those with a family history of chronic or hereditary conditions.

A variety of interactive health activities were offered throughout the day. Health education sessions stressed the importance of regular check-ups, recognizing symptoms of chronic illnesses, and seeking timely medical care. In total, 150 men were screened for various health conditions, with high-risk individuals referred to appropriate healthcare facilities for further assessment.

Prostate health education targeted men over 40, while HIV/AIDS awareness sessions included counselling, testing guidance and condom distribution to promote safe sexual practices.

The success of the outreach was made possible through the support of community leaders and organisations, including PASA, WITS RHI, Pakistani media and the Laudium CHC Clinic Committee. Volunteers and healthcare teams played a critical role in ensuring the smooth running of the event.

The clinic committeee provided water and fruit for participants, further enhancing the experience.

The programme’s impact was immediately visible. Attendees gained valuable knowledge about men’s health, high-risk patients were connected to appropriate services and collaboration among stakeholders reinforced the community’s commitment to wellness.\

By bringing the event to the taxi rank, Laudium CHC demonstrated the power of community-based outreach, meeting men where they live and work. This approach successfully raised awareness, facilitated screenings and strengthened the connection between healthcare providers, local leaders, and the public—highlighting the importance of taking health services directly into the community.
