Letter to the editor… Local driver Mr AM left ignoring responsibility after collision

Laudium — What began as a seemingly straightforward exchange of information after a minor road accident has now turned into a frustrating ordeal for one local driver. Mr AM bumped into Mr X’s car, the two parties agreed to exchange contact details. Mr AM indicated that he resides in number XXX Taj Street, Laudium. However, despite repeated attempts to reach out, the driver at fault has since ignored all calls and messages.

The collision occurred on the corner of Lenchen and Assegai Streets on 09 May 2026.

Mr AM appeared cooperative, providing his phone number and promising to follow up on damages. Since then, he has failed to respond, leaving the victim without clarity on repairs or compensation.

Cases like this highlight the challenges of road accountability. While not classified as a hit-and-run, ignoring communication after an accident undermines trust and leaves victims
burdened with repair costs. It has reached a point where the culprits need to be named and shamed, see below photo of the culprit and the vehicle in question.

Local residents have voiced concern over the increasing number of drivers who avoid responsibility, noting that insurance claims become complicated when the other party refuses to engage. This case serves as a reminder that responsible driving extends beyond the road — it includes honoring commitments made after an accident.

What Can Be Done
– Victims are encouraged to file a formal complaint with the police if the other driver refuses to cooperate.
– Insurance companies often require proof of attempted communication, so keeping records of calls and messages is crucial.
– Authorities advise motorists to always document accidents thoroughly, including photos, witness statements, and license plate numbers.

Anyone with information regarding Mr AM’s whereabout is urged to contact the Laudium Sun office which has the writer’s details.
