The Muslim Students Association (MSA) Tuks recently hosted a spiritually uplifting Mass Iftaar at the University of Pretoria, bringing together a remarkable number of students, staff and distinguished guests.

The event saw an overwhelming turnout, with students from diverse backgrounds gathering to break their fast in unity, during the blessed month of Ramadaan. The atmosphere was one of reflection, gratitude and togetherness, a true embodiment of the spirit of community.
MSA Tuks Chairperson, Shahmir Zahid, told the Laudium Sun, “The Mass Iftaar further reflected strong inter-organisational and interfaith solidarity. Representatives and political leadership from the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command and South African Students Congress (SASCO) were present, alongside members of the Hindu Student Society and Student Representative Council (SRC). Their attendance demonstrated the power of shared spaces and mutual respect across political and religious lines. The evening served not only as a time to break fast but also as a platform for unity, dialogue and strengthened relationships within the university community. The collective participation of various student bodies and leaders highlighted the inclusive ethos of MSA Tuks and the broader university environment. MSA Tuks extends its sincere gratitude to all guests, organisations, volunteers and attendees who contributed to the success of this memorable evening. May the spirit of unity and compassion experienced at this Mass Iftaar continue to guide us beyond Ramadan. We were also honoured by the attendance of Cde Bassam Elhussiny, Deputy Ambassador of Palestine, whose participation added great significance to the evening. Together in faith. Together in community.”
