The irrepressible Yugan Naidoo brings satirical spark to the GNU with “SHOTGUN WEDDING” to Killarney Cinecentre on November 1, 2025 at 20h00. The Avalon Group which owns Cinecentre in Killarney Mall, will host the most unconventional wedding review of the year. But this is no ordinary wedding – Shotgun Wedding is in fact an Arranged Marriage. This is the latest comedy production from Yugan Naidoo, live in Johannesburg for one night only! This bold new production comes from theatre legends Yugan Naidoo and Vivian Moodley. The duo found each other in Pretoria and no sooner had they got together, then they created this outrageous piece of work based on the shenanigans of our very own Government of National Unity (or better know as the GNU) No, not Ge-NU! It’s Gee N You) Now you will remember that it was these very two comedians who left you guys in tears, and screaming for them to stop in Ronnie Govender’s Too Muckin Fuch – because they really were just too much!!! Well now Yugan Naidoo has put together the funniest quartet of guys that have been on stage in a while. Along with Vivian Moodley he is returning to the stage alongside accomplished musician Ravi Subramoney and the wacky impersonator Patrick Samuels to deliver a clever, laugh-out loud satire on South Africa’s post 2024 national election government, the Government of National Unity (GNU).
About the Show
Shotgun Wedding made its debut in Laudium in May 2025 to a resounding reception. If you saw it then, you have already enjoyed it! If you didn’t here’s your chance to catch it before it goes on tour to KZN.
This rip-roaring comedy blends political parody, music, dance, and sharp wit – all framed through the lens of a comedic arranged marriage for an entire two hours. The storyline offers a fresh and entertaining take on the formation of the GNU while celebrating the unique energy of Yugan Naidoo’s brand of theatre. With no offensive language, this family-friendly show promises to entertain audiences while encouraging thoughtful reflection on the country’s current political dynamics – all wrapped in humour and heart warming toe-tapping tunes.
Why This Production Stands Out
“SHOTGUN WEDDING” is one of the few full-scale theatrical productions tackling the GNU through satire – and for those of you who think satire is something rather serious – think again – satire is the art of making something look ridiculous by raising laughter through how you portray the scenario. Here it combines clever storytelling, spontaneous humour and live music to create a performance that is both timely and timeless. The cast features celebrated names from some of South Africa’s most iconic works –including Too Muckin Fuch, Generations, Isidingo, Imbewu – The Seed, and the globally streamed Kandasamy series on Netflix. This production offers a rare mix of seasoned talent and social commentary – delivering insight with laughter and satire with soul. Lead actor and director Yugan Naidoo adds: “I haven’t had this much fun ‘marrying’ the idea of an arranged marriage with the actual formation of the GNU. You must believe there’s something more going on here. And this is our funny take on it. This production is more than just a comedy – it’s a cultural moment. We will never be here again! Come experience this totally and utterly unique comedy for the ages!”
