Synopsis:
In Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?
Sun Review:
It turns out the Avengers aren’t the only ones who can save the day — sometimes it takes a squad of outcasts, killers, and sarcastic super-soldiers to clean up a mess. Marvel’s Thunderbolts** throws together its most chaotic characters in one gloriously messy, surprisingly emotional mission. If you’re expecting a recycled superhero formula, think again. This one’s grittier, darker, and funnier than most MCU outings — and it works. Florence Pugh absolutely owns the screen as Yelena Belova, once again blending dry humour with emotional depth. Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes brings the brooding heart of the group, while David Harbour (Red Guardian) gets the most laughs, dad bod and all. Even the lesser-known characters like Ghost and Taskmaster get their moments, reminding us that everyone’s got baggage — especially in the Marvel universe. Director Jake Schreier leans into the team’s dysfunction, letting their uneasy alliances and biting banter power much of the film. It’s not all wisecracks, though — the film tackles trauma, regret, and redemption without ever losing its explosive pace. And yes, the action set pieces are chef’s kiss — punchy, practical, and not drowning in CGI sludge for once.
Sun Verdict:
Thunderbolts* brings just enough new energy to the Marvel mix. It’s bold, bumpy, and full of bite — the perfect redemption romp for Marvel’s B‑team (who might just be A‑list material now).
