Showers of mercy on Eid-ul-Fitr

Despite light showers of rain, many congregants attending the PMT Mosque on Jewel Street, had to perform Eid prayers in the PMT open parking lot, due to the Mosque being filled to capacity

The joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated this past Saturday (Mar 21), marking the end of the blessed month of Ramadaan. There was a sense of excitement in the air from the early morning hours, as young children beamed with happiness, dressed in their beautiful Eid outfits, eagerly anticipating their Eid gifts, while the elders reflected on the deeper meaning of the day… a day of unity, humility and joy. Although rain in the early morning led to the cancellation of the outdoor Eid Gahs, this did little to dampen the spirit of the community. Masjids across the area were filled to capacity with congregants, who gathered in large numbers for the special Eid morning prayers. At the PMT Masjid, an overwhelming turnout saw the Masjid filled to its limits, with an overflow into the parking lot and stoep outside, undeterred by the light rain.

All smiles and no mourning despite wet Eid morning

As expected, the blessed occasion of Eid ul-Fitr was observed this past Saturday (March 21), bringing to a close 30 days of the holy month of Ramadaan.

However, what was not expected was the drizzle of rain that started just before Fajr (early morning prayer) and continued for about 2 hours, leading to the cancellation of open-field special Eid prayers (Eid Gahs), in the Pretoria area. However, the spirit of the day remained unaffected.

The cancellation led to Masjids in the area being filled to capacity as worshipers gathered in large numbers to perform the special morning Eid Salah.

At the PMT Masjid on Jewel Str, Laudium, the turnout exceeded all expectations, with many congregants forced to pray in the parking area remaining undeterred by the drizzle.

Across Laudium and surrounding areas, the true essence of Eid was captured… a day defined by gratitude, joy and a powerful sense of community where togetherness prevailed above all. Families later gathered in their homes, sharing meals, exchanging visits and strengthening bonds.
