The Garden Social Services met at their premises on Jewel Street, Laudium, on Tuesday, to discuss upcoming community initiatives, including the Grocery Gift programme scheduled for August 5 and World Cane Day set to take place on October 10.
The Grocery Gift initiative will be hosted at Dhlamini Junction in Soweto, where 108 visually impaired individuals will receive essential grocery hampers. This outreach programme forms part of The Garden Social Services’ ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community and ensuring that dignity and care remain at the centre of their efforts. The organisation continues to work tirelessly to identify those in need and extend meaningful assistance through well-organised and impactful initiatives.
Preparations are also underway for World Cane Day on October 10, an important annual event hosted by The Garden Social Services. This day serves as a powerful platform to raise awareness about visual impairment and to promote inclusion, understanding, and support within society. The highlight of the event will be the awareness walk, where hundreds of visually impaired participants will walk from Jubilee Hospital to Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria.
Over the past five years, The Garden Social Services has successfully hosted what has become one of the largest awareness marches of its kind. Each year, the event continues to grow in both size and impact. This year, the organisation anticipates that more than 2,000 visually impaired individuals will take part in the march, making it a significant milestone and a strong statement of unity and visibility within the community.
Moulana Aboobaker Chouglay of ‘The Garden Social Services’ told the Laudium Sun, “We record our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the community of Tshwane and surrounding areas for their continued support and prayers. The encouragement and involvement from the public play a vital role in the success of these initiatives and inspires
the organisation to continue making a difference. Special thanks is also extended to Laudium Sun for consistently covering these events and helping to share the message with
the wider community. Their ongoing support ensures that these important initiatives are recognised, remembered, and celebrated. Through these efforts, The Garden Social Services remains dedicated to uplifting lives, creating awareness, and building a more inclusive society for all.”
